As a regular hunter and gun sports enthusiast, you could say that I get through my fair share of ammunition throughout the year. I’ve always been a fan of HPR ammunition, which I know is expensive, but I was taught that quality matters when hunting. However, the last time I went out hunting, a buddy of mine wanted to know why I wasn’t using the cheaper Remington Range 9mm ammo instead.
I told him about my ethos of favoring quality ammunition over less expensive brands and told me that I was missing out. He’d been using Remington 9mm cartridges for years, and he swears by them. So, I had to try them out, right? My curiosity got the better of me, so got a couple of boxes and fire them.
Spoiler alert – I was more than a little surprised.

So, I went and bought some of the rounds and set up my targets in my backyard. One thing that struck me when I opened the box was that they were in a hard case that kept them nice and neat. I hate brands that simply pack them loose. It’s just messy.
Looking at the round’s profile more closely, it was what you’d expect. Nothing fancy. These aren’t anywhere near as expensive as my HPRs, but they’re not the cheapest either. If this is what middle-of-the-road looked like, I was interested to find out more.
Felt Recoil? Within Acceptable Limits
After getting through a couple of clips, I was content with the felt recoil that was within what I’d consider being within acceptable limits. More importantly, however, I found the recoil of Remington Range 9mm ammo to be very consistent.
Ok, so 90%+ of my shots had standard up-and-down recoil, however, some did push either left or right. Honestly, though, I’d put that down to my error, rather than the bullets themselves.
What About Accuracy?
All I can say about accuracy is that these rounds all went precisely where I was aiming them. Accounting for user error, I was more than happy with the grouping – as it was pretty much as I would expect with my HPRs. So, nothing at all bad to report.
I had not one misfire either – something I wasn’t expecting. I assumed that lower-priced ammo would be plagued by misfires and constant jamming, but I was wrong. I got through 200 rounds, and every single one fired perfectly.
I’m Now Completely Sold on Remington Range 9mm Ammo!
All I can say is that I’ve had my eyes opened. I was dead set against changing from my HPR rounds EVER, as I thought it mattered to the experience. Sure, they cost me more, but I felt it was worth it. I have well and truly changed my mind on that account, and I’m saving a ton of cash because of it.
However, now I have first-hand experience with Remington cartridges, I can see that it is possible to get a decent round that suits my needs for less. Consistent, accurate and decent recoil – there’s not much to complain about.
Throw in the fact they’re also clean rounds that reduce the amount of weapon maintenance after use and I’m completely sold. That’s all there is to it!
